This is a commissioned portrait for a dear friend's family for their birthdays. This is the first time I did three subjects in one drawing, it was such a challenge because if I scew up while color marker the second person or their pet in the end, I'd have to start a brand new drawing.

Another challenge was that their pictures given to me for reference were not the most clear ones, and I haven't never met them or know them personally. So I could only keep looking between few photos of them from younger to older, and to grasp the feeling and mix and match.

Very very luckily the drawing came out without any mistake, so many days of effort didn't go down the drain. Whewww~

I did this illustration this morning for participating a fun challenge called "Draw This In Your Style" by an illustrator I love and follow on Instagram @eglantineceulemans ! So her post is the 2nd picture, and it made me want to participate because this fun challenge I can relate due to I did have a pair of roller skate when as a kid, so it was not hard to draw my memory of it.

After my 50th cat illustration last week, I wanted to draw people's faces again. So a couple days later when I sat down at my desk, my super supportive friend Shanai's face came to my mind, then I went through her photos on her Instagram and found six photos I like. 

I referenced one for face but liked another one for her big red hair blown by wind, and four other smiling faces for accuracy on angles of eyes, nose, and mouth.

I've known her for years, but still, it took me awhile to get her feeling right. At one point, I had to get up and go away for a bit and then come back with fresh eyes making sure I see her through my pencil outline.

Done in markers and color pencils.

This illustration is inspired by a cute cat video I saw on Instagram where a tourist visiting Turkey and there's a cat sitting inside the passport control station.

I can't wait to visit a cat country like Turkey and feed all the cats I encounter!
